This post is a continuation of the post – How To Express Your Message.
If you haven’t read that yet read it first before reading this one.
Your Message doesn’t get communicated without your voice.
Your voice is the channel through which you express your message.
It is the medium you use to tell your story.
Your voice could be writing, speaking, singing or any other artistic expression. It is what you use to communicate your message.
You can also make use of different means of expression as your different voices.
In fact, most people of influence I know use more than one method of expression.
Brian Tracy writes and speaks, Bob Dylan writes and sings, Jeff Goins writes and speaks, Micheal Hyatt writes and speaks, even yours sincerely writes and speaks too.
So yes, you could have more than one channel of expression.
However, it is good to stick to one (especially when you are just starting out). To be known as an expert in something specific is invaluable.
I’d tell you about the writing voice.
I write (meaning I use the writing voice).
Your writing voice is simply how you sound when you write.
Yes, it travels through your thoughts and gets manifested in your actions (writing ). It is there in your social media posts, your instant messaging, and even online conversations.
Now to find your own unique writing voice and stop sounding fake. Here’s an activity with seven (7) things to help you.
1. Describe yourself in five words (preferably adjectives).
2. Write down five blogs, magazines and personalities you like and follow.
3. Free – write for about a quarter of an hour.
4. Ask people to describe your writing
5. Ask yourself – “is this how I want to sound?”
6. Read what you write often.
7. Pay attention to how you want to sound.
These seven things would point you to your writing voice. Use it to express your message everyday.
